Convention Life

My Weekend at Wizard World Austin

With the recent controversy regarding and the firing of co-owner Stephen Shamus Wizard Entertainment is not at the best of places but we aren’t here to talk about that. We’re here to talk about Wizard World Austin 2016 and that was a great time.

Wizard World was a convention I had initially not planned on attending as I felt the shows had started to become repetitive but as the show came up and more and more guests began to be announced I had to go for two reasons. The co-creators of two my favorite things were going to be there Bob Camp of Ren & Stimpy fame and Val Mayerik the artist for Howard the Duck.

While guests like Sebastian Stan (Winter Soldier, Once Upon a Time) and Bruce Campbell (The Evil Dead, Army of Darkness) were in attendance at this point I’ve seen so many celebrities at conventions that with few exceptions they aren’t really my primary interest at shows. Regardless seeing Bruce Campbell in a vest, cowboy hat and tin star because Texas was pretty amazing to say the least.

Wizard World Austin was a great show with the only problem being a standard one. While more and more conventions have reduced the amount of media guests that require you to have to pay for an autograph in order to meet them at Wizard World this year the majority of guests did so. I know that some celebrities have this in their contract but normally not this many. That’s something they can definitely improve upon next year and I hope they do. Other than that this was an excellent show and I can’t wait till next year.
